“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave. A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master…” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
There are people that we meet who only whisper through our lives, barely leaving anything to remember them by. May it be a good song choice, a controversial statement, a forgettable kiss or half a hug/ handshake. Some of these people stay longer than we intend. Sometimes we hold onto these people far too long. The ones who don’t contribute to our happiness in any way, the ones who we cannot be vulnerable with and don’t deserve to play such a lead role in our lives. We can be blinded to whom is whom when it comes to this, and by the time we realize, the damage is done. However, that’s not what I’m getting at.
Because then there are those souls that light through our minds, burning their image onto our every thought, idea or belief. These will be people who haunt your every move. And unintentionally or not, who will make an unchanging difference to your life. It is so bizarre how one powerful life force can push us to our very limits, on our very own edges and encourage us to jump. So indulge deeply, enjoy fully and learn to just take it all in with a deep breath.
